Romero-Gustafsson Possible For UFC 230

While Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz continue to politic for the UFC 230 main event and a 165 pound title, it seems a light heavyweight championship fight may be going on last at Madison Square Garden.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, an interim or official light heavyweight title fight may be booked for Alexander Gustafsson and Yoel Romero for the November event at MSG.

Romero, who had trouble making the middleweight limit of 185 pounds, has openly considered the move up after his loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC 225. Also complicating matters is Romero’s recovery time from surgery required after the loss.

While Gustafsson has openly wanted to fight Daniel Cormier and the returning Jon Jones, this would be the first fight he’s had since knocking out Glover Teixeira in 2017.
