Romero Pulls Out From UFC 230

While Yoel Romero was set to face off at UFC 230 against Paulo Costa, he already announced his intentions to move up to 205 pounds, and he was injured…

On Tuesday, Romero told Ariel Helwani that he is not moving to light heavyweight immediately, and he also needs to back out of his November showdown due to recent surgery.

“Maybe four or five months. The doctor said, ‘Yoel needs more time.’ You know me. If you give me somebody, I take it. But you need to be smart. When the doctor says, ‘You’re ready,’ you can go. I’m waiting.”

“I talked with the UFC and said I’m not going to go up (to 205). Maybe in the future. People need to see the belt on my body. When I take the belt, maybe I’ll go up and fight a superfight.”

Romero would miss weight in his last two title opportunities, suffering a broken orbital bone in his fight against Robert Whittaker in May at UFC 225.
