Romero Vs Lopez World Title Fight Reportedly Confirmed

Rolando “Rolly” Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) is set to make the first defense of his WBA welterweight world title against former 2-division world champ Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) on August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Romero has not fought since his upset win over Ryan Garcia for the vacant title in May 2025 and was elevated to full champion last August after Jaron Ennis vacated the belt to move up to 154 pounds. The 30-year-old had been linked to fights with Devin Haney and Manny Pacquiao before those discussions fell through.

Lopez arrives at welterweight off the back of a loss to Shakur Stevenson in January that cost him his WBO junior welterweight title. The 28-year-old former unified lightweight champion is moving up to 147 pounds for the first time and looking to become a world champion in a third weight class.
