Ronda Rousey Submits Gina Carano In 17 Seconds

Tonight, in the main event of the first MMA card on Netflix, Gina Carano fell victim to Ronda Rousey’s trademark armbar, which closed out the evening at the Intuit Dom in Inglewood, California, with a 17-second finish.

Prior to the match, Rousey said that she would plan to use her grappling ability to bring things to the ground against Carano to end the fight as soon as possible, and that’s exactly what she did. When the opening round began, Carano came forward to measure the distance with a low kick, and that was the only opportunity Rousey needed to secure the double-leg takedown and ultimately end up in the mounted position very early into the bout.

After delivering just a few punches from the top position, which had Carano looking like she was questioning her return to the cage, Rousey shifted her hips into a side-mounted position where she began to set up the submission that everyone was expecting.

Once Rousey took hold of her opponent’s arm and leaned back, it didn’t even take a second for Carano to tap out to the pressure of the former UFC champion’s well-executed armbar.

Through this victory, Ronda Rousey found success in her return to MMA following her loss to Amanda Nunes in 2016, and added a 13th win to her 15-fight career. Meanwhile, Gina Carano added a second loss to her professional record. Her first loss came in her last match before Saturday night back in 2009 when she suffered a brutal first-round knockout against Cris Cyborg.
