Rosario Upsets Williams for WBA/IBF Gold

It was eight months ago when Julian Williams pulled off a shocker over Jarrett Hurd to claim the WBA and IBF super welterweight titles. Now, he finds himself on the other end of that spectrum.

Jeison Rosario pulled off a major upset on Jan. 18, stopping Julian Williams in five rounds and stunning Williams’ hometown Philadelphia crowd to win the WBA and IBF super welterweight championships.

The fight headlined a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Williams utilized his jab well to start the fight, but he ended up cut on his left eyelid in the second round. Williams attempted to work the body in that same round, but Rosario was able to handle all that came his way.

Williams landed a few key rights on the challenger in the third round, but Rosario found the mark in the fourth with an uppercut.

But during the fifth round, Rosario unleashed a flurry that stunned Williams, who fell to the canvas on what the referee ultimately ruled a shove. Rosario, however, quickly rocked Williams against the ropes again and forced the referee to step in and wave the fight off.
