Roy Jones Jr To Fight For The Final Time

On Thursday night, Roy Jones Jr. will fight for the 75th and final time from the Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida, his home town.

It comes full circle for Jones, who began his career as a pro in the same building he looks to end it, in 1989. He will face Scott Sigmon in a fight for UFC Fight Pass, and told ESPN’s Dan Rafael that he will be looking to knock the Virginia native out.

“I’m gonna figure out a way to get him out of there,” Jones said to ESPN.

While Jones had one of the more well-respected careers in boxing, and is a lead analyst for HBO’s boxing coverage, he continued to fight, even though others told him to retire. While talking with ESPN, he said it was hard for him to just walk away.

“There are things I wanted to accomplish that I knew were no longer within my reach. I love boxing. Even out of my prime I love boxing like I did when I was champ. But you can’t go on forever no matter how much you love it. It’s time. I’m ready to say goodbye.”
