Roy Nelson Signs with Bellator

Roy "Big Country" Nelson has officially jumped ship from the UFC, signing a deal with Bellator MMA back on May 26.

While the promotion has not made the signing official as of May 27, the announcement is expected to come shortly. Nelson leaves the UFC with a 9-10 record inside its Octagon.

Nelson first burst onto the MMA scene by winning the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter; his journey to the title include a preliminary bout win over the late Kimbo Slice. That fight with Slice is still to this day the most-watched fight in the history of the series.

Following that victory, Nelson earned notable wins in the Octagon over the likes of Stefan Struve, Dave Herman, Cheick Kongo, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva. While he was not the most successful heavyweight in the UFC, he was certainly one of the most popular and beloved by the fans.

While the details of the deal are not finalized and announced, it is expected that Nelson will make his Bellator debut in the fall.
