Ruiz Calls AJ’s Bluff

Before Kenny Rogers became known for Chicken and being parodied on MAD TV, he put out his biggest hit, The Gambler.

In that song, he reminds those who partake in betting to “never count your money when you’re sitting at the table,” and Anthony Joshua may have started counting chips before Andy Ruiz Jr could call his bluff on Tuesday.

Joshua, who is enacting his contractually-obligated rematch against the current unified world heavyweight champion, claimed in an interview with Sky Sports that he’d fight Ruiz in Tijuana with Ruiz’s uncle as the referee.

Ruiz has gone all-in against the bluff set by the former world heavyweight champion.

“AJ says he can whoop me in Tijuana,” the champion wrote on Twitter, “prove it!

“Let’s run it in Mexico. Remember that you did have a huge reason to come to America and that was to build your profile. Cherry pick gone wrong.”

With Cardiff, Wales the primary target for Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, one wonders what will happen in the final run of negotiations for this world title collision.
