Rumor: Masvidal Vs. Diaz Boxing Match Set for March

Rumors are emerging that Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz have reportedly agreed to a boxing fight in March, subject to an official announcement.

Masvidal’s decision to come out from retirement increased speculation he could fight at UFC 300. Ben Askren and Justin Gaethje were some of the names mentioned as an opponent. Chael Sonnen felt Masvidal would only return for the Gaethje fight since he holds the BMF title.

“There’s a one in a million chance that he goes back [to the UFC]. That would have to be him versus [Justin] Gaethje at [170 lbs] for the BMF [title],” Sonnen stated

That was dismissed after Jake Paul leaked Diaz as Masvidal’s next opponent. The ‘Problem Child’ deleted his social media post, leaving fans none the wiser. Diaz and Masvidal have only fought once at UFC 244. Masvidal won to secure the BMF title. But former UFC fighter Josh Thomson hinted that a fight could happen in February.

“From what I’m hearing, that fight’s supposed to happen February 28th against Nate Diaz. In a boxing match, so if that fight happens, the UFC’s not gonna bank on their main event or their co-main-event against Leon Edwards against Jorge Masvidal, knowing that he fights two or three weeks before,” Thomson said

Ariel Helwani also suggested a fight is in the works.

But according to Happy Punch, it is a done deal for March.

Both men have boxed previously on one occasion. Masvidal beat Joseph Benjamin in 2005. Meanwhile, Diaz lost a unanimous decision to Jake Paul in August. There is still no official confirmation from either fighters’ representatives, but the talk of the rematch has gotten MMA fans talking.
