Russell Vs. Nyambayar Live Results
Facing another mandatory challenger, Gary Rusell Jr. is hoping a win propels him to face other champions within boxing. Russell will be defending his WBC Featherweight Championship against Tugstsogt Nyambayar inside the PPL Center, in Allentown, PA.
On a six-fight win streak, Mr. Russell last fought in May, knocking out Kiko Martinez via TKO. That was his fourth time defending his title. Fighting once a year since 2015, Russell appears to be fresh and ready to go. Speaking to FIGHT SPORTS, Russell doesn’t believe the lack of ring time is an issue. He also believes a win should get him a shot at Leo Santa Cruz and Gervonta Davis, or face Vasyl Lomachenko in a rematch of their 2014 bout.
Regardless of looking for what he wants, Russell is ready for his latest challenge, who he doesn’t take lightly.
“You go into every fight differently,” Russell Jr. stated. “I think ‘Tug’ is very durable. He has a little punch with him, a little pop with him. I think he’s a little bit more technically sound than a lot of the guys that’s in the upper echelon. I respect any person as a fighter. Anyone that steps in the ring and competes, I have respect for. Power doesn’t really matter though if you can’t hit anything.”
In his young career, Nyambayar (11-0) has knocked out nine fighters. His last bout against Claudio Marrero was a unanimous decision victory back in January 2019. Two of his last three fights have ended via decision, a rare feat.
