Four gold, five silver and five bronze medals was the count that gave Russia the overall top spot at this years Qingdao grand Prix.  Japan had an impressive showing at the tournament being relatively inexperienced racking up four gold medals and three bronze medals.  Japan finished higher than China who was thought to have a good chance taking top honors at the event, China finished with three gold, four silver and eight bronze medals.  China did end up falling short of expectations especially in the heavyweight division where it was thought that they were superior to their competition.  Chinese women faired better than the men in the heavier weight divisions.  Russia and Japan were the stars of the heavier weight divisions on this day.  The Tokyo Grand Slam is the last major judo tournament of the year.
