Russia Takes First Europe Mixed Juniors
After it seemed France would walk away from Bulgaria with the crown, Russia’s judoka would take the honor of being the first junior mixed team European champions.
It would be a close and contentious final, with France taking an early lead, but Russia would take a 4-2 advantage prior to Laura Fuseau making it 4-3 heading into the final. Yet, Russia’s Dzhamal Gamzatkhanov defeated Palthi Mena Munzikbu in the last decisive contest and made it 5-3 for Russia.
Russia’s path to the finals was through Germany, sending the eventual bronze medalists down with a 5-0 routing in the sem-finals.
