Ryan Garcia Blasts Golden Boy’s Bernard Hopkins

Ryan Garcia has criticised Bernard Hopkins‘ comments about his future with Golden Boy Promotions.

Garcia’s comments arrive as he prepares for his first fight with Derrick James against Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, 2023. The Mexican has 11 knockouts in a row, which is why the fight will test Garcia’s resolve following his first loss at the hands of Gervonta Davis in his last fight. Following the Davis loss, Garcia spoke to the media alone as Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya failed to turn up.

In addition, Garcia entered into legal action with Golden Boy Promotions, claiming his contract had been breached. Garcia alleged that his contract allowed him to fight on PPV with any network. However, Golden Boy reportedly informed the fighter that the Davis fight would be on DAZN because of their agreement with the network. That resulted in Garcia firing verbal shots at De La Hoya, which has now extended to Hopkins, who questioned his future moving forward.

“I will see how Ryan looks and then make my personal decision on whether he should fight again,” Hopkins

“What does he mean, ‘I’ll make the decision? He ain’t gonna make sh!t. He can’t make sh!t about me. The crazy thing is I’mma box my ass off … for a team that don’t even believe in me, but damn they’ll collect that money that I’m making them. They collect that $6 million, though, but you don’t know if I should box again? But you made that money off that [Davis] fight, though. Yeah, shut up,” Garcia said

Hopkins was not the only source of criticism, however. Garcia turned his attention towards Shakur Stevenson following his below-par performance against Edwin De Los Santos. Shakur picked up the vacant WBC lightweight title by fighting on the back foot with his jab, which resulted in a chorus of boos throughout the fight. Although it turned out that Stevenson had a hand injury, Garcia was open to fighting him to shut down what he believed was a lack of respect coming from the fighter.

“If he wants it, I’ll beat his a**. I’m tired of him. You talk way too much s***, and when he’s talking s***, he’s talking s***, s***. It’s not like to entertain. He’s taking everything personal. Alright, you want to take it personal, we can take it personal. I don’t like to do that, but he’s so arrogant that it’s to the point where I got to whoop his a**. That’s a guy I want to whoop his a**,” Garcia stated
