Ryan Garcia Fails To Make Weight; Drinks ‘Beer’ At The Weigh-In

Ryan Garcia missed weight ahead of his clash with Devin Haney this Saturday, as he drank what appeared to be a beer at the weigh-in.

Haney defends his WBC Junior Welterweight Belt as Garcia seeks his first world title. During the final pre-fight presser, there were worries over whether Garcia would make weight. The two boxers agreed Garcia would pay Haney $500,000 for every pound that he weighed over. At the weigh-in, Garcia hit the scales at 143.2 pounds. That was 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit. The news also means Garcia won’t be eligible to win the WBC belt.

Just before Garcia was about to get on the scales, he drank what seemed to be a beer. The weigh-in results meant Garcia owes Haney $1.5 million. Haney, in contrast, hit the scales at 140 pounds. While there were concerns over the beer, Garcia later clarified that it was just a prop.
