Ryan Garcia has one fight in mind that would be a dream come true for him.
Garcia is one of boxing’s fastest rising stars. He is undefeated in his career up to this point, amassing a record of 21-0 with 18 knockouts along the way. “KingRy” is coming off a seventh-round knockout victory over Luke Campbell to capture the interim WBC Lightweight Championship.
During a chat with ES News, Garcia revealed what he would consider to be a dream fight. The man he’d love to share the ring with is current WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao (via BoxingScene.com).
“That’s the dream. Manny is a legend and it would be like surpassing him in the humblest way. I don’t want this to sound like I’m being disrespectful, Manny knows my respect for him. People love him because he fights with his heart. You don’t even have to tell people to respect him, because more than one entire country supports him.”
It’s clear that Garcia and Pacquiao are at two different stages in their careers. Many believe that Garcia has the potential to blossom into boxing’s top star for years to come if he stays on track. As for Pacquiao, his legacy has been cemented and at this point, he’s looking to score another massive payday, this time against MMA superstar Conor McGregor. UFC President Dana White is opposed to the match, at least for now.
Garcia has been targeting a matchup against WBA (Regular) Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis. While Garcia has the right to fight WBC Lightweight titleholder Devin Haney, he prefers to fight “Tank” next.
