Ryan Garcia has confirmed that he will now be working under his new trainer Derrick James, having left Joe Goossen.
The news arrived following Garcia’s seventh-round TKO loss to Gervonta Davis in what was the biggest fight of his career.
Immediately after the fight, Garcia’s then-trainer Goossen was absent from the post-fight presser, raising doubts that he would be working under Garcia any longer.
The move coincides with Garcia’s decision to move up to 140 lbs, showing that he is ready to regroup.
And with other champions joining him in the stable, such as Errol Spence Jr, Anthony Joshua, and Jermell Charlo, this could be exactly what Garcia needs to reinvent himself.
After all, James is known for getting the best out of his fighters by focusing on their strengths and fundamentals.
This was something Davis called Garcia out for by questioning his basic boxing nouse. And by the looks of it, the social media response was in favor of this move.
