Ryan Garcia Promises He Will Fight Gervonta Davis In 2021
Ryan Garcia has promised that he will share the ring with Gervonta Davis before 2021 comes to a close.
Garcia is the interim WBC Lightweight Champion, while Davis holds the WBA (Regular) gold. Despite having a mandate to fight WBC Champion Devin Haney, Garcia has been taking aim at “Tank” Davis. There appears to be mutual interest between the fighters but Garcia fights on DAZN, while Davis competes under PBC and Mayweather Promotions. Floyd Mayweather has insisted none of his fighters will compete on a streaming platform.
During an appearance on The Ak & Barak Show, Garcia said he expects to fight Davis some time in 2021 (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“It’s gonna happen this year. I have a feeling it’s gonna happen in September, so that’ll give us just enough time to train. We have about eight months, enough time to build this up to levels that haven’t been seen before. So, I’m ready for this journey. I’m ready to try to make this fight happen.”
While “KingRy” and “Tank” have exchanged words, Garcia was honest in his belief that Davis isn’t avoiding him.
“I don’t think he’s running. I mean, when I say those type of things, you know, it’s just for like you get under his skin a little bit. I don’t know if he was running. Honestly, I just wanna make sure this fight gets made. You know, if he has any doubts, I’m gonna pressure him so much that, you know, they’re gonna have to look at him like, ‘Gervonta, come on, man. You’re letting this guy talk all he wants and you don’t wanna accept it.’ I mean, that’s my approach on it. I know this fight needs to be made, and so I will do whatever it takes to get it made. I told you I’m going all in. I’m going all in.”
