Ryan Garcia Reportedly Leaves Joe Goossen – ‘Good Move?’

Ryan Garcia has reportedly parted ways with his trainer Joe Goossen after his loss to Gervonta Davis. That is according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

The alleged split comes after Garcia’s disappointing loss, where he sat out the referee’s count following a body shot by Davis in the seventh round.

Despite the anti-climax, the fight received 1.2 million pay-per-view buys. Garcia’s preparation for the Davis fight had been a topic of discussion following the loss.

The failure of Goosen, Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins to accompany Garcia in the post-fight presser raised many eyebrows.

Not only that, but Garcia’s former sparring partner, Erdenebat Tsendbaatar, also apologized for causing an injury to Garcia in sparring before the Davis fight, which adds to the speculation that Garcia may have fought with a mole in his camp.

While the exact reason for the apparent split between Garcia and Goossen is unknown, it is not uncommon for boxers to change trainers.

After all, Garcia left Eddie Reynoso in order to team up with Goosen, despite having Canelo Alvarez in his circle.

Regardless of the case, if Garcia wants to compete at 140 lbs, one thing for sure is that he will need a better performance next time.
