Ryan Garcia Responds To Canelo’s Remarks About ‘Lacking Motivation’

Ryan Garcia and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez have closely trained together for a long time now. Being more experienced in the game, Canelo has been seen helping Garcia hone his skills at the gym where they work out together.

Garcia, 23, attended MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to watch his colleague become the undisputed champion by knocking out Caleb Plant.

When asked about Canelo’s comments on his way out of the arena, Garcia clarified that he is not taking the criticism personally.

“I don’t lack inspiration. I’m a hungry fighter. I had a hard year,” the boxer said.

“I understand where he’s coming from. It’s always all love. I don’t take anything personally. I just know that I had a hard year. But I’m fully recovered mentally. And when I get back with this [after the wrist surgery] I am coming for everybody’s heads that said I’m not disciplined, not nothing. I am coming straight for them. I am going to knock everybody out to sleep, cold. I’m coming for everyone. Destroy them. That’s it.”

Earlier, Canelo had told an interviewer that he finds Garcia talented, but the 23-year-old is doing injustice to himself by not grinding hard enough.

“Look, Ryan has a lot of talent. But to me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal,” Alvarez said.

“We always remind him as a team to come to the gym, to train, and to learn because you need to be in the gym. You’re learning day-by-day, at the very minimum fighting five times a year. When I was beginning my career, I did 15 fights in one year. That’s where I was at the beginning of my career. So definitely he needs to be a little more dedicated,” he continued.

Garcia has been out of the ring for a while now.

First, he took some time off due to his mental health, and just when he decided to get back into the ring against Jojo Diaz Jr, he injured his wrist. He had reportedly broken his wrist while training for the fight and had to undergo surgery.
