Ryan Garcia Targets Teofimo Lopez After Haney

Ryan Garcia has targeted Teofimo Lopez for his next fight after Devin Haney

Garcia can win his first world title as he faces Haney on April 20 for the WBC Junior Welterweight Belt. The fight was made after Garcia’s bout with Rolando Romero broke down. Ryan initially wanted to face Romero, hoping to get his WBA Junior Welterweight Belt and then fight Haney in a massive unification.

That never happened, but the fight is still significant in Garcia’s career. He came up short on the biggest stage against Gervonta Davis, getting stopped in the seventh round. Garcia blamed the 136-pound catchweight and ten-pound rehydration clause for weakening him. But at 140, he feels confident of getting a win and then fighting Lopez.

“After I beat Haney, I’d kind of like to fight Teofimo. I think that’s my next one. We’re going to break the Internet even more. We’re going to break the Internet even more,” Garcia stated

But if Garcia suffers a loss, he must consider his next steps carefully. This is only his second fight with Derrick James, making it more risky. There are concerns that Garcia’s defense is susceptible. James is the perfect trainer for boxing fundamentals, but fighters need time. Haney knows Garcia well, having fought him six times in the amateur circuit with a 3-3 record. So, Garcia must develop a novel game plan to keep Haney guessing.
