Ryan Garcia isn’t buying the narrative that Teofimo Lopez was dominant against Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Back in October 2020, Lopez scored the biggest victory of his pro boxing career. He challenged Lomachenko for the WBA (Super), WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Titles. Lopez was the IBF titleholder going into the bout. “The Takeover” scored a unanimous decision victory.
There was no rematch clause for the fight, something Lopez wasn’t too thrilled about prior to the matchup. Since earning the victory, Lopez hasn’t sounded enthusiastic about having a rematch with Lomachenko as he feels the result wouldn’t change and he cites “Loma’s” team being disrespectful to his father.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Garcia said that Lopez should step up and give Lomachenko a well-deserved rematch.
“I don’t like when he tries to make it seem like he destroyed Lomachenko. And then to say, ‘oh he don’t deserve no rematch.’ Man, you didn’t beat his ass. Excuse my language but you didn’t whoop him down to the point where it was like, ‘undeniable, why would you give him a rematch?’
“Be a man. You didn’t beat him down. You did alright but he does deserve a rematch in a way. And if you don’t wanna give it to him, I’ll take him. But I’ll be going to knock him out. I’ll make it real clear. I’m not here to play. I want to knock you out every time.”
Garcia is the interim WBC Lightweight Champion. He captured the gold by knocking out Luke Campbell back in January. “KingRy” has been targeting bouts with Manny Pacquiao and Gervonta Davis.
As for the rumblings between Garcia and Lopez, both men have shown mutual respect. With that said, the competitive spirit is alive and well. Lopez has expressed his belief that Garcia is “scared” of a fight with him. Garcia has called Lopez a “hating ass” and wants to knock him out.
