Ryan Garcia Vs Rolando Romero Breaks Down As Rolly Faces Isaac Cruz

Ryan Garcia was expecting to fight Rolando Romero on April 20, 2024, but Rolly has now moved on to face Isaac Cruz

Garcia vs. Romero seemed likely after Ryan pulled out of negotiations with Devin Haney to pursue this fight. But Oscar De La Hoya stated otherwise, confirming that Romero had demanded too much money. Jose Ramirez was put forward as an alternative, only for Garcia to shut down that suggestion. That left Garcia with serious questions about his next opponent as Romero hit out at the boxer and De La Hoya for trying to make another fight behind his back. Romero then turned his attention to Isaac Cruz.

“F— Princess Ryan Garcia, f Oscar De La Fishnets, and f DAZN, the stiest streaming network out there, for wasting my time and more important wasting the entire boxing world’s time. It’s disgusting to see how you guys do business, then trying to go behind my back offering [Isaac Cruz] an offer, then claiming I [priced myself out]. Y’all fed up. Now it’s Rolly vs Pitbull on Amazon Prime, the largest network in boxing history. This fight is an explosion,” Romero said

It appeared that any issues had been resolved, with Dan Rafael confirming ongoing negotiations.

Now Mike Coppinger has stated that Romero will fight Isaac Cruz on the Tim Tszyu vs. Keith Thurman card, leaving Garcia visibly frustrated.

Tszyu Vs. Thurman

Tszyu’s fight with Thurman will not be for the WBO Junior Middleweight Title. Tszyu is the current champion and was expected to make the second defense of his title. He secured the belt after being elevated from an interim champion to a full champion. This was after the ex-champion Jermell Charlo was stripped for boxing Canelo Alvarez at 168 instead.

Tszyu made the first defense of his title, beating Brian Mendoza unanimously. The fight had potentially offered Thurman the chance to become a two-weight world champion. But at 35, Thurman has now been denied a world title shot. The bout will be a non-title fight at 155 pounds, while the co-main event between Rolando Romero and Isaac Cruz takes place for Rolly’s WBA Junior Welterweight Belt.
