Ryan Garcia Will Appear in Movie About Himself; Announce Next Fight
It has been a busy couple of days for boxing heartthrob Ryan Garcia who will not only appear in a movie but has also teased a return to the ring. First news broke that the 22-year-old Golden Boy fighter has hooked up with director Gina Rodriguez to film a sports drama inspired by “King Ry” and his rise to prominence as a Mexican American starlet.
According to Variety, “Garcia is starring in the film as a fictional version of himself. Due to Garcia’s fighting schedule, the movie won’t begin shooting until the summer of 2022.”
Meanwhile, back inside the squared circle, Garcia has taken to Twitter to announce a potential new fight date. “Announcement for the fight coming soon,” wrote the WBC Interim lightweight champion, much to the delight of his dedicated fan base.
Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) was due to fight Javier Fortuna on July 9 in Los Angeles but withdrew from the bout citing ‘health and wellbeing reasons. This was a slight momentum stall for Ryan who was riding high off the back of a stunning body shot finish over Luke Campbell in January.
Interest in a fight between Garcia and the likes of Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney or Gervonta Davis is growing. It is hoped the next opponent will lead to a mega-fight against one of those names.
