WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) has urged caution over reports that his fight with Conor Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) is set for September 12 in Las Vegas, revealing negotiations are still ongoing and nothing has been formally confirmed.
Garcia previously confirmed that he would face Benn next in what would be the first defense of his WBC belt. Ryan secured the title after beating Mario Barrios on February 21. Meanwhile, Benn secured his position as the WBC mandatory after defeating Regis Prograis on April 11 after which he called out Garcia. Garcia suggested the fight is close but stopped short of declaring it done.
“The truth is, I have a potential fight with Conor Benn. Nothing too official right now. Me and my manager are working on figuring out the details, but it looks good. But until it’s finalized, it’s hard to say it’s going to for sure happen because I know everyone’s saying September 12th in Las Vegas at T-Mobile. I could say that I’m going to fight September 12th in Vegas, but the opponent is a question mark. Or let’s just say there’s a slight asterisk on it,” Garcia
