Salido Wants Rematch Against Lomachenko
Although controversial, Orlando Salido, former two time world champion is the only fighter to beat Lomachenko professionally. Salido missed the 126 pound limited by 2 1/2 pounds and then came into the fight weighing 11 pounds more than Lomachenko after rehydration. Poor contract management allowed for the fight to take place even though Salido grossly out weighed Vasyl. Lomachencko has stated he wants revenge on Salido and it appears Orlando is willing to give him a second shot at it.
“I feel that there is some unfinished business between us and that’s why I,m hoping for a Lomachenko victory. I’m very happy with my win over him, but as a warrior you always want to prove yourself against the best and as he seems to think that he can win a second fight against me, I would like to give him the opportunity to prove it,” said Salido.
Salido felt he was robbed of that opportunity of a Lomachenko fight when he was given a draw last summer in his championship fight against Francisco Vargas, and while the fight could be the fight of the year, the result was a disappointment.
“I felt – like many people – that I won my last two fights, and that I should be getting the big fights as a world champion. I wish the best to Lomachenko tonight, and if he wants to avenge his loss to me I will be very happy to give him the rematch,” said Salido.
