American judoka Travis Stevens has progressed to the semifinals in the men’s 81-kg judo tournament in Rio.
Stevens, who went to San Jose State, won his preliminary three fights on Tuesday morning. He was dominant throughout the victory, winning two by ippon (one by match-ending throw and the other by 20 second pin).
The 30-year-old Stevens previously finished fifth in the London Olympics and won the World Master’s tournament in May.
He faces Avtandil Tchrikishvili in the semifinals later today. If he advances, he will leave Rio with at least a silver medal.
