Sanchez: Jacobs Can Beat Jermall Charlo
Gennady Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez believes that Daniel Jacobs would beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Jermall Charlo, if given the opportunity.
In June, Golovkin was stripped of the IBF middleweight title, after not signing a deal to fight his mandatory challenger Dervyanchenko, and instead focus on fighting Canelo Alvarez or Billy Joe Saunders. Alvarez and Golovkin would eventually sign for a rematch on September 15th in Las Vegas.
The IBF has now ordered Derevyanchenko and Jacobs in a fight for the vacant title.
“I think that Danny wins that fight [with Derevyanchenko]. Danny is a bigger guy, he’s more experienced. I know that he hasn’t looked as good in a couple of his recent fights, maybe because he wasn’t as motivated,” Sanchez told Boxing Scene. “Sometimes you need that motivation, something that gets you up. And against Derevehcnko, he would be like ‘Hey, I’m the older brother.’ I think Danny would beat him. And Danny would beat Charlo.”
“Danny is one heck of a fighter. He didn’t run against Golovkin. He stood there and fought. He’s a really good fighter and I just think that these other guys are just not at that level.”
