Saudis Eye Canelo vs. Crawford, Davis vs. Inoue Fights

The Saudis want to make Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis vs. Naoya Inoue

The Canelo-Crawford fight is seen as an alternative to Alvarez against Benavidez. Canelo beat Jaime Munguia in his last fight via a unanimous decision. But to fight Benavidez, he is requesting $200 million. That appears very unlikely, with Crawford becoming a leading alternative.

Ever since he stopped Errol Spence Jr. to become the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era, Bud was chasing Canelo. A win makes him undisputed in a third weight class. Canelo dismissed it, saying he would get no credit for beating a welterweight fighter. However, a fight with Canelo could happen if Crawford beats Israil Madrimov in his next fight on August 3.

The Davis-Inoue fight appears less likely. Inoue has already come up from around 108 pounds to become undisputed at 122 pounds. Davis fights at 135 pounds, meaning there has to be a catchweight. But even if Davis moves down to 130, Inoue has previously ruled that fight out. But it has not stopped the Saudis from trying to make the biggest fights.

“[We are] working on Canelo and Crawford, [We] want this fight. And we are thinking to do it in America. Because we want it huge, in the biggest stadium and a big PPV. We want to do it at the end of the year or at the beginning of [next] year. [We] hope nobody stands in our way from doing something like this – the promoters or the belts. Because in the end, if we want it we will do it. And Gervonta Davis, if he gets smart, vs Naoya Inoue. These are dream fights [we] like. Make him come to us, make him do fights in Saudi Arabia, in America, in London, we are ready to talk about it. He’s a great fighter, it would be a shame if he quits after some years and 99 per cent of his fights are in Japan,” Saudi statement
