Saunders Hopes GGG KO’s Canelo
Even though he’d welcome a fight with Canelo Alvarez, Billy Joe Saunders is hoping Gennady Golovkin drops Alvarez on September 15th in Las Vegas.
Saunders was near a deal to fight Golovkin in August at the Forum in Inglewood, California, but Golovkin would end up signing for the highly anticipated rematch with Alvarez.
While the WBO middleweight champion understands why Golovkin would take the fight financially, but feels like Alvarez should not be rewarded for testing positive for clenbuterol earlier this year, cancelling an originally scheduled May 5th rematch.
“Well, I reckon Canelo shouldn’t even deserve a rematch for the drug scandal,” Saunders told BoxingScene.com over the weekend in Belfast, Northern Ireland. “Listen, he’s got it. But I wanna see Golovkin come through. Hopefully, Golovkin knocks him out or beats him on points.”
