Saunders Is Confused Why Jacobs Is Praised For GGG Loss

WBO middleweight Billy Joe Saunders wants to know why Daniel Jacobs was praised by some experts for a twelve round unanimous decision loss to WBC, WBA, IBO, IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin

Jacobs was a big underdog in the fight and many expected him to get knocked out, but unlike 23 others before him, Jacobs made it to the score cards in March 2017,  with the tally being 115-112, 115-112, 114-113 in favor of Golovkin at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Jacosb made his ring return earlier this month, with a dominant decision over undefeated Luis Arias.

Next month, Saunders will travel to Canada to defend his title against former IBF world champion David Lemieux.

Jacobs is planning to travel over to sit ringside at that contest – because he wants to call out the winner. He believes both Saunders and Lemieux are a level below him.

While Saunders views Jacobs as a good fighter, he is not impressed with a boxer looking good in a loss. Saunders would rather look terrible in winning.

“Danny Jacobs is a good fighter, he’s come through some tough battles in his life. Everybody’s talking about a ‘brilliant loss’ he had. He lost. You got beat. I’d rather have a terrible win than a brilliant loss.”

If Saunders wins against Lemieux, he wants to target Golovkin – if a rematch is not finalized with Canelo Alvarez for May 5th, as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend.

If Golovkin-Canelo II is set, then it will be interesting to see if a Saunders vs. Jacobs deal can even get done. They are represented by rival promoters in the UK. Saunders has a deal with Frank Warren, while Jacobs recently signed with Eddie Hearn as part of his Matchroom USA banner.
