According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the mystery man is non other than Billy Joe Saunders. The former WBO Middleweight Champion left promotor Frank Warren earlier this month, and it looks like he is buying into more prestigious matchups down the line. Saunders (28-0) could now be showcased to a Sky Sports and DAZN audience compared to his run on ESPN and BT Sports.
The 29-year-old last fought in May, beating Shefat Isufi for the vacant WBO Super Middleweight Title. Prior to that he gave up the WBO Middleweight Title due to a drug test controversy. The hope is that he will now be going for a fight against Callum Smith, the current WBA and The Ring Supper Middleweight Champion.
With 19 wins via KO, a Saunders signing enhances a stacked DAZN/Matchroom middleweight roster that also includes Canelo Alvarez, Daniel Jacobs, Gennady Golovkin and Demitrious Andrade.
