Sean O’Malley Hints At September Return Versus Merab Dvalishvili

Bantamweight UFC champion Sean O’Malley seems to have the month of September earmarked for his next walk to the Octagon.

Last month at UFC 299, “Suga” defended his 135-pound title with a skillful win over Marlon Vera, avenging his 2020 loss to “Chito” in the process. Meanwhile, Merab Dvalishvili, who O’Malley is most likely to face next, is also coming off an extremely impressive victory over former two-division champion Henry Cejudo at UFC 298 in February.

Earlier this week, O’Malley took to X and indicated his return will hopefully take place in September. Of course, the speculation is that O’Malley wants to make his next UFC walk at UFC 306, the organization’s first event inside the Las Vegas Sphere.

At first, O’Malley was resistant to giving Dvalishvili a shot at his title, as he believed there were other possibilities to explore. But more recently, he has mentioned that the number 1 ranked Georgian is rightfully next in line.

In true O’Malley fashion, the champion even released a comical training video on his coaches Instagram with the caption “Training hard for MARAB #UFC”.

Clearly, with no news coming from the UFC just yet, the timeline of this potential bout is far from official. But, fans are already relishing in the idea of seeing this extremely high level 135-pound matchup go down at such a monumental venue such as the Sphere.
