Sean Strickland On New UFC Competition Gloves – “Yeah, They Suck”

Sean Strickland has given his opinion on the newest UFC glove technology, and it was not a glowing review.

The former middleweight champion is preparing to square off with Paulo Costa this weekend in UFC 302’s 185-pound co-main event.

During Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference, Strickland was asked what he thought of Islam Makhachev’s recently vocalized disapproval of the new equipment, and essentially the lightweight champion’s sentiment was echoed.

“They suck,” Strickland said. “Can we talk to the person who designed these gloves? Have you ever been in a fight in your f*cking life? It’s like you get these f*cking dorks that have no idea. Like, this sounds like a good idea and they make it. Same thing with motorcycles. I’ve bought motorcycles and they put so much stupid sh*t on it. How did you assh*les think this was a good idea?

“So no, they absolutely suck. You dropped the ball on that one.”

UFC 302 will be the first time we will see the new UFC gloves in action, and despite the feedback thus far, no one will really know anything until this Saturday.

“At the end of the day, people f—–g get poked in the eyes because they open their f—–g hands,” Strickland said. “Unless you put a boxing glove on, that shit’s not gonna stop. It’s just people creating a problem that we did not have.”

Live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, UFC 302 will be headlined by Islam Makhachev defending his title versus top tier challenger Dustin Poirier. Of course, Strickland versus Costa will fulfill the co-feature, which is also scheduled for 5 rounds.
