Sergio Martinez’s Opponent For December 5 Revealed

Sergio Martinez’s next opponent has been revealed.

Martinez is planning to stick with his return plans but he’s doing so gradually. The once-dominant middleweight was surprised to see that he’s already been ranked number six in the WBA rankings with just one comeback fight under his belt. On the other hand, Martinez does plan to challenge WBA (Regular) Champion Ryota Murata after getting a few more fights.

Martinez took to his Twitter account to unveil the poster for his next fight. He’ll take on Jussi Koivula.

Martinez made his comeback fight on August 21 against Jose Miguel Fandino in Spain. Martinez scored the seventh-round TKO victory. It was “Maravilla’s” fight since June 7, 2014.

To this point, Koivula has amassed a pro boxing record of 24-7-1. Along the way, he has scored nine knockouts. He’s coming off a second-round TKO loss to rising undefeated welterweight Conor Benn.

Martinez had retired after his TKO loss to Miguel Cotto due to issues with his knee. The good news for “Maravilla” is that he’s felt 100 percent for a bit of time now. He did wear a protective brace for his bout with Fandino as a precaution. Martinez’s record stands at 53-3-2 with 29 knockouts to his credit and multiple world titles.
