Sergio Pettis Wants To Collect Two Promotions Belts Like His Brother Anthony
Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis will defend his title against legendary fighter Kyoji Horiguchi at Bellator 272.
Pettis will headline the event with Horiguchi on December 3 in Connecticut. Pettis is aiming to become a cross-promotion champion like his brother, Anthony Pettis.
“I think it would be a great opportunity for me to cross-promote,” Pettis said. “Anthony has a WEC belt and a UFC belt, and it would be awesome to have a Bellator belt and Rizin belt as well, to have all the belts in all the organizations – it would feel like a completion.”
Horiguchi defeated Darrion Caldwell and won the Bellator bantamweight title, but after suffering a severe knee injury, he was forced to vacate his title. After that injury, he avenged his loss against Kai Asakura and won took back his title.
“That shows how good he truly is, that he could bounce around weight classes and also organizations and still be at the top tier,” Pettis said. “It takes a real skill set to do that. It’s something I’m trying to do, as well.”
Pettis himself had some great moments in the UFC, but in the end, he left the promotion without a belt. After the UFC, he signed in the Bellator and already won all three of his bouts.
“I feel like the title in general is on the line,” Pettis said. “… I think this is a fight where it’s really going to show who has the real championship in my division.”
