Serrano’s Last-Minute Boxing Bout Set

While she is not competing in the boxing ring, seven-weight champion Amanda Serrano has been entering the MMA cage. Fighting primarily for Combate Americas, Serrano was set to fight on January 25 inside the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. The event, however, was postponed, leaving Serrano without a fight.

Not one to waste a training session, Serrano (37-1-1) has taken a last-minute boxing bout on this upcoming Thursday’s boxing card in Miami, Florida. She will face off against Simone Aparecida Da Silva in an eight-round bout at 132 pounds. The main event of the card features Demetrius Andrade defending the WBO Middleweight Title against Luke Keeler.

“Getting ready to go back in the ring this coming Thursday on the January 30th @DAZN_USA Miami card,” Serrano stated on Twitter. “I was scheduled to do an MMA fight but the show got cancelled. I haven’t been training boxing & I have my biggest fight coming up in April. I want to be 100% ready so this will do.”

Serrano’s last boxing bout was against Heather Hardy back in September, winning via unanimous decision. Following the bout, Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn mentioned the idea of her v. Katie Taylor sometime in the middle of the year. Taking a last-minute bout is a warmup for her, even if she is in the middle of changing her entire workout program.

“This fight is [to stay busy] for my big fight in April against the undisputed 135-pound champion Katie Taylor, but I want to make it clear that my focus right now is Da Silva, who despite having not that pretty of a record, is still a strong opponent who has faced the best and endures,” stated Serrano via Boxing Scene.

Serrano faces off against Da Silva (17-14), a fighter with six knockouts to her name. She is coming off of a  loss against Tiara Brown back in December via unanimous decision. The fight will be taking place inside the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami, Florida. Another bout featured will be YouTuber Jake Paul facing AnEsonGib.
