Shadasia Green will get a chance to fight for the vacant WBC super middleweight title after the champion, Savannah Marshall, relinquished the belt following an injury.
Green is the WBC interim champion, who was in line to face Marshall when the latter became undisputed at 168 following her win over Franchón Crews-Dezurn via a unanimous decision. But now the withdrawal will keep Marshall out of the ring until around spring next year as the WBC will decide who Green will fight for the vacant belt. Green, in fact, was expected to face Crews-Dezurn first for all the belts, only for the WBC to withdraw that order as Marshall stepped in. Thereafter, the number-two-ranked boxer faced Olivia Curry as she won via a unanimous decision. But now Green’s opportunity to grab a title has arrived, with a win putting her in line for an undisputed bout with Marshall later down the line, who becomes a ‘champion in recess.’
“The WBC Board of Governors has decided to place Savannah Marshall as Champion in Recess and will order a fight for the vacant Super Middleweight world title between Green and an opponent to be designate by The WBC Women Championship Committee. Savannah Marshall defeated Crews-Dezurn and unfortunately sustained an injury which will keep her outside of the ring at least until April 2024. We wish a prompt and successful recovery to Savanah Marshall,” WBC stated
