Shakur Open To Fighting Ryan Garcia Without Rehydration Clause

Following WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia saying he would not fight WBO junior welterweight champ Shakur Stevenson if he was insistent that a rehydration clause be in their contract, Shakur has now stated that he will not demand the clause if Ryan agrees to come down to 140 to face him.

Stevenson said he would welcome a fight vs. Garcia at junior welterweight and is willing to believe that he can make the weight limit again, even though he did fail to make 140 in his fight vs Devin Haney back in 2024 as he tipped the scales at 143.2lbs. Garcia’s reported rehydrated weight is near the 170lb mark so cutting down to 140 would leave him at a significant disadvantage in a fight at 140 due to the likelihood of being weight drained.

Shakur did not argue about Garcia’s weight saying “We can’t assume he can’t make 140, he said he can as long as he locks in and takes it serious.” Shakur added that a 144lb catchweight bout could also be a possibility, however Garcia previously stated he doesn’t want a catchweight bout..he wants to face Shakur for his title. Shakur re-iterated that Ryan “said he could do it so we can fight at 140.”
