Shakur Reveals Current Weight, Fueling Haney Catchweight Debate

WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) has posted a video of himself stepping on a scale, revealing his current weight of 148.6 pounds, reigniting the debate on why he demanded that a fight vs. WBO Welterweight Champion Devin Haney (33-0, 25 KOs) would need to take place in a 144-pound non-title catchweight bout.

Haney had initially rejected Shakur’s catchweight demand before publicly agreeing to the 144-pound fight, however with the welterweight limit sitting at 147 pounds, Stevenson’s scale reading puts him nearly two pounds above the division’s maximum weight — prompting many to question the necessity of a 144-pound limit for the bout, while others are pointing out that most fighters’ walk-around weight is much higher than their actual fighting weight. This new video posted by Shakur, however, comes amid the WBO ordered Haney to defend his belt against Keyshawn Davis next or risk being stripped of the title.
