Shakur Sets The Terms For A Haney Fight

WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) is willing to box WBO Welterweight Champion Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) at a 144-pound catchweight, specifically requesting that no titles be involved in the matchup.

Stevenson’s choice of 144 pounds is a strategic compromise. For Haney, who has struggled with the 140-lb limit in the past, 144 lbs offers a more humane weight cut. For Shakur, who is still comfortably a lightweight, 144 lbs represents the maximum threshold where he feels he can compete without being physically overwhelmed. Shakur pointed to Haney’s victory over Jose Ramirez in 2025—which took place at 144 lbs—as proof that Haney can successfully perform at that specific weight.

“I think that Haney fought at a catchweight against Jose Ramirez two fights ago, if I recall, and it was 144 pounds. So, I would love to do it at 144 pounds. We can meet him in the middle. I don’t think that the belt has to be on the line. I think that the fight is big enough for both of us to be fighting at a catchweight. And I don’t think the belts really matter in that instance. I think we can both sell out a big arena, and it’ll be a tremendous fight,” Shakur said
