Shakur Stevenson Announces His Next Fight For July 6

Shakur Stevenson’s next fight will be on July 6 at the Prudential Center, Newark.

Stevenson’s announcement arrives following his recent decision to reverse his retirement. The boxer retired after the WBO ordered Emanuel Navarrete vs Denys Berinchyk for the vacant lightweight belt. Stevenson, the current WBC Lightweight Champion, became frustrated by his inability to unify.

He won the WBC belt against Edwin De Los Santos in a defensive performance, where he was booed throughout the fight. He struggled to make the big fights; Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis distanced themselves from the boxer, feeling Shakur did not sell. Stevenson retired in January, only to reverse his decision days later with the aim of fighting in June.

Now, the boxer is intent on making a statement.

I’m coming to make a statement and whip ass. They’re never playing me again. I’m not a person to be played with. I’ll be my sensational self and whip ass. I’m the best fighter in boxing. I know that. I just gotta kick my way through the door [toward major events], and that’s going to happen starting July 6. I’m so excited about it. The stuff I’ve been working on originally is special … Bud knows. He told me in the last fight, ‘Go out there and box and win,’ and I did. Now, I’ll be taking the same advice and turning it way up,” Stevenson revealed

Stevenson’s opponent has yet to be confirmed. He denied suggestions he would face Raymond Muratalla. Muratalla’s record stands at 19-0, with 16 knockouts. That would make him a dangerous opponent, and he is ranked second in the WBC lightweight rankings. But Shakur denied those claims, leaving fans wondering who he will face.
