Shakur Stevenson Claims Top Rank Are Protecting Vasiliy Lomachenko

Shakur Stevenson has hit out at Top Rank, saying Vasiliy Lomachenko is being protected.

Lomachenko became the IBF Lightweight Champion, stopping George Kambosos Jr. in round 11. A win opens up a possible unification. Shakur is the WBC Lightweight Champion, having beaten Edwin De Los Santos to win the vacant belt. Shakur defends his belt against Artem Harutyunyan on July 6. Gervonta Davis also called out Loma, saying he was next. Davis defends his WBA Lightweight Title against Frank Martin. Despite those options, Shakur has accused Loma of being shielded from him.

“Loma can’t do nothing with me, I promise you that. That’s why they will never let me punch on him. The same way they saved Pacman from Bud.

“I respect yo fighting style I respect that you are a legend what I don’t respect is your willingness to not fight me.. People from the Ukraine is build wit Bravery within don’t hide behind Top Rank because that’s is not brave on your end,” Stevenson

Loma could have faced Shakur after losing to Devin Haney. The Ukrainian was next in line to face Shakur for the vacant WBC belt after Haney vacated. Loma took the rest of 2023 off, preventing the fight from happening. But with one fight left on his Top Rank deal, Shakur may be better positioned to negotiate the Loma fight.
