Shakur Stevenson Gets Newark Homecoming Vs. Robson Conceicao
Shakur Stevenson is returning home.
Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) will be defending his WBC and WBO world super featherweight titles against Robson Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 23.
Stevenson has climbed the pound-for-pound boxer conversation after his lopsided win against Oscar Valdez in April. The 24-year-old had broken down Valdez by the end of the 12-round fight.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s Conceicao lost to Valdez by unanimous decision in September 2021, but that fight was overshadowed by controversy.
Prior to the bout, Valdez was positive for Phentermine, which is banned by VADA. The then-champion was, however, still allowed to fight and still allowed to defend his title with what seemed to be little to no repercussions.
Stevenson is returning to New Jersey after three years. He last fought at the Prudential Center against Alberto Guevara, which ended with a knockout.
