Shakur Stevenson Returns On December 12 For ESPN Headliner
Shakur Stevenson will have one more fight before 2020 comes to a close.
Top Rank Boxing’s Carl Moretti told ESPN that Stevenson will do battle with Toka Kahn Clary on December 12. This will be a 10-round affair and it’ll air live on the major ESPN network. This would be Stevenson’s second and final bout of 2020.
Here’s what Clary had to say about going one-on-one with Stevenson.
“Shakur is a young talented fighter. It’s a great matchup. I’m a little older with more experience. We’ve both got fast hands and good footwork, but I think power and experience will be on my side. A lot of the guys he’s been fighting have been standing in front of him and pressuring him. They haven’t been using their jab, so I look forward to doing that on the 12th.”
Stevenson is the mandatory WBO Junior-Lightweight Title challenger. He awaits the winner of champion Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton if that bout materializes. Stevenson and Herring are close friends but “Sugar” hasn’t been shy in saying he’d fight Herring if there was gold on the line.
Stevenson is undefeated thus far in his pro boxing career. He has a record of 14-0 with eight knockouts to his credit. In his last outing back on June 9, Stevenson scored a sixth-round knockout victory over Felix Caraballo.
Clary comes into the bout with Stevenson at 28-2 with 19 knockouts to his credit. He scored a TKO victory over Jonathan Perez in his last outing. Clary hasn’t suffered a loss since October 20, 2018.
