In a recent interview with Cigar Talk, four-division champion Shakur Stevenson indicated that he may stick around at 140-pounds to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz.
This past Saturday, Stevenson defeated Teofimo Lopez by a unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden, defending his super lightweight titles in the process. Now, the question is where Stevenson wants to move from here.
Some are wondering if Stevenson may go down in weight to 135-pounds to regain a title, as he was stripped of his WBC lightweight belt earlier this week over unpaid sanctioning fees. But he also received a call-out this week from WBO welterweight titleholder Devin Haney, who thinks that a match between them would be the ‘biggest fight in boxing,’ so he could be looking at a move up. To the call-out from Haney, Stevenson replied with the following statement that kept things vague yet impactful.

But now Stevenson has once again kept the fanbase guessing, suggesting that he might stick to his current weight and continue to defend titles at 140-pounds, starting with a fight with interim WBC super lightweight champion Isaac Cruz. In Cruz’ most recent outing, he defended his title over Lamont Roach Jr. in a closely contested majority draw last December.
“It’s about the guys that are most lucrative and the guys that are the most lucrative fights is the guys that I am going to fight.
“I see Pitbull [Isaac Cruz], Pitbull is a guy that is a name in the sport and, honestly, it’s a lot of casual fans that love Pitbull.
“So, most of his fanbase is the guys that are casuals and they believe that a guy like Pitbull would be the style to do something with me, but [he is] easy work.”
