Shakur Stevenson Vs. Robson Conceicao Undercard Results: Keyshawn Davis Pummels Omar Tienda, Records Third Consecutive Knockout
Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis took out veteran Omar Tienda by technical knockout at 1:38 seconds of round five.
Round one of eight began and the two didn’t hesitate to throw their punches. Davis got a reaction out of the crowd with a right hand.
The two got tangled up several times. Davis began to unleash some combinations and — seconds before the end of the round — Tienda hit the mat, but it was not ruled a knockdown.
In the second round, Davis took advantage of the tone he set and the crowd reacted loudly. Davis would hit and run — forcing Tienda to put in some extra work to reach him.
Davis continued to stay on the offensive while Tienda kept his hands up more. Moments before the bell, Tienda tried to unload his punches, but it didn’t seem to faze Davis.
Entering the third round, Davis landed a punch that pushed his opponent back. Less than a minute left, Davis continued to land combinations that would freeze Tienda.
In the fourth round it was clear that Tienda was struggling. Tienda was pushed against the ropes while taking punches from his opponent, and eventually landed on the floor on his knees, but it was — again — not ruled a knockdown.
Tienda taunted Davis as he approached the center with him. Tienda then sent Davis to the floor, but it didn’t count either; the crowd was vocal.
In the fifth round, Tienda pounced forward but was on the mat in a matter of seconds.
Davis then played off of the crowd’s energy and unleashed a barrage of punches. The referee didn’t let it go on for long and waved off the fight.
WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford — who is close friends with Davis and Shakur Stevenson — was put on the big screen and clapped proudly.
Davis participated in his second eight-rounder. He has been sparring with Crawford since he was an amateur. He’s also sparred with secondary WBA lightweight titling Gervonta Davis and former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
Tienda had won seven straight fights — all by knockout. He last lost before Friday was in 2017 by decision.
