Shakur Stevenson Wants Emanuel Navarrete For His Next Fight

Shakur Stevenson wants Emanuel Navarrete for his next fight after calling out the Mexican on social media.

Stevenson is the WBC lightweight champion, claiming the vacant belt with a unanimous decision win over Edwin De Los Santos. The performance was below par, earning Stevenson numerous boos during the fight. Shakur fought off his jab, looking to avoid getting into an exchange. It then transpired Shakur had a hand injury coming into the fight.

De Los Santos was equally responsible for the dull spectacle. He failed to cut the ring off. The performance damaged Stevenson’s chances of getting fights with Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney. Before Shakur’s fight, Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, said the financials for a Stevenson fight did not make sense. Haney then stated his 25 percent offer to Shakur should have been less following his performance against De Los Santos.

Navarrete may be the opponent who brings out the best in Shakur. The Mexican fights on his front foot. His record stands at 38-1-1, with 31 knockouts. Shakur knows he cannot afford a similar performance as Navarrete will prove to be a tough opponent.

Stevenson has one fight left on his contract with Top Rank. An impressive performance will go some way to securing the best deal and the biggest fights.
