Shakur Stevenson has targeted a fight with Gervonta Davis moving forward.
Stevenson has frequently been linked with a fight against Davis, only for the latter’s trainer, Calvin Ford, to dismiss the idea. This was on the grounds that the finances in the fight would not make it possible for both fighters to agree on terms. After all, Stevenson has shown that he will not be lowballed, having rejected Devin Haney’s 25 percent offer to make a fight. As for Davis, the boxer has just come out of prison following his biggest win against Ryan Garcia, which made him the self-proclaimed ‘face of boxing.’ In a fight that sold over a reported $1.2 million pay-per-views, Davis is the bigger name. Therefore, Tank’s next fight is likely to get him ready for a mega-bout later. And for Stevenson, he was hopeful of getting that fight.
“Tank is the best fight. There is one fight that needs to happen in boxing. I’m not Tank. He’s the pay-per-view star. I can’t throw no offers to Tank. Who am I to throw an offer to the biggest star in boxing? What am I going to offer him? It doesn’t make sense.
“That would have to be on their part on their team to do that. I want to do that. I would love that. I think that’s the biggest fight in boxing skills-wise. I want to prove to the world who I truly am. You could name five fighters, but all those other dudes don’t matter. There’s just one fighter that I want to fight when it comes down to it,” Shakur said
Nevertheless, before that can happen, Stevenson must focus on his next fight. He is set to square off against Frank De Los Santos in a WBC title eliminator at lightweight on November 16th, 2023. And provided that Stevenson comes out victorious, he will become a three-division champion. That would open up more opportunities to secure bigger fights, which can only be a good thing.
