Shawn Porter Makes Early Prediction For Potential Errol Spence Jr Vs Terence Crawford Fight
Shawn Porter knows who he’s backing if Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford do meet in the ring.
For Porter, he said Crawford is the better fighter because of how he approaches fights, and he thinks Spence could fall victim to it.
“The best welterweight right now is Terence Crawford,” Porter told The Last Stand Podcast.
“There were a number of things that I saw, felt, sensed, the whole nine. He was just a little bit better than anybody I’ve been in the ring with.
“I got a feeling that Errol would confirm this. I think coming into the ring, Errol was prepared to beat me at my game, and Terence was prepared to beat me at his game mentally. There’s a difference.”
Crawford wore down Porter and eventually forced a stoppage in their WBO welterweight title fight in November.
Porter announced his retirement during the post-fight press conference and Crawford announced he was going separate ways from Top Rank.
In 2019, Porter lost to Spence by a 12-round split decision, which some boxing fans thought Porter should’ve won.
Aside from Porter, some say that Crawford hasn’t had another opponent that matched his skills.
Immediately after Spence unified the WBC, IBF and WBA welterweight titles – by TKO over Yordenis Ugas – he called out Crawford and said he was coming for his belt, which is the last needed to become undisputed champion.
Crawford congratulated Spence on the win on Twitter, and said, “Now the real fight happens.” He added that he’ll be coming after Spence’s belt later in the year.
Even boxing legend Floyd Mayweather showed his support for Crawford and said he would “love” to sign him.
