Former WBC and IBF Champion Shawn Porter admits Snoop Dogg is entertaining in the booth but he isn’t so keen on having the rapper call his fights.
For many, Snoop Dogg stole the show during the highly-anticipated exhibition bout between boxing legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. on November 28. The rapper provided color commentator for Jake Paul vs. Nate Robinson and Tyson vs. Jones. While Snoop Dogg’s knowledge of the sweet science is limited, many agreed that he was fun to listen to.
During an appearance on Sports Map Radio’s Jake Asman Show, Porter said he isn’t so sure he wants Snoop Dogg in the booth for his fights.

“You know what, I don’t know. Even though it was fun and entertaining I think that the real sport of boxing, excuse me I don’t want to say real, I think big boxing events like the ones that I’m in, the one that we’re gonna have this weekend [Errol Spence Jr. vs. Danny Garcia], I think people need to hear and understand the X’s and O’s more important than they do needing to be entertained.”
Porter went on to say that while the entertainment factor is there with Snoop Dogg, it isn’t all fun and games when it comes to pivotal boxing matches.
“Even though Snoop made it very entertaining and fun to watch, I think that there’s definitely more that needs to be said along the telecast especially a fight like this that’s so big and important this weekend.”
Not everyone is a fan of Snoop Dogg in the booth. Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh felt Snoop Dogg’s jokes weren’t clicking.
